Tomorrow at the State House...February 24th, M-POWER, Massachusetts People/Patients Organized for Wellness, Empowerment and Rights will be gathering at Room 437 to support the 5 Fundamental Rights and the Fresh Air Bill. Their numbers are H.1945 adn S.743 respectively.Just a historical note: Your Human Rights are essential. If you are a mental patient of any sort they are at risk. Beware!

Today I was reading about how the laws on Informed Consent came about in 1972 through the Federal Government. This was because an investigative reporter, yes, a good media person who wasn't bought and sold by corporatations they way most of them are now, reported on the so-called Tuskeegee syphillis "experiments". This is where the US Department of Health denied potentially curative health care to large numbers of diagnosed men on who were in poverty and part of a depised racial minority for over thirty years! We, patients and ex-patients are todays equivalent of that group. If you don't believe this just look at the number of Out Patient Committment laws, medication "guardianships", representative payeeships and guardianship of persons that are happening largely to young people who have been diagnosed with "Serious and Persistent Mental Illness."
